You Graduated. Now What?

It’s Time to Network with Purpose.

College is over. The cap’s been tossed, the champagne’s been popped… and now your inbox is full of “Thanks for applying” emails (or worse, nothing at all).

Here’s the truth no one puts in your graduation card:
If you're just clicking "Apply" and hoping your dream job falls into your lap, you’re doing it wrong.

It’s not about blasting your résumé. It’s about building relationships.

So what should you be doing? Start networking. Intentionally.

Here’s your 3-step game plan:

1. Pick 2-3 groups to show up in.

Think:
• Local professional meetups
• Career-specific Facebook or LinkedIn groups
• Alumni networks
• Industry Slack communities

Don’t just join, participate. Comment, ask questions, offer help. Your next opportunity isn’t hiding in a job board. It’s waiting in a conversation.

2. Reach out with purpose.

Seen someone doing something cool? Tell them. Ask how they got started. People love to talk about themselves, give them a reason.

Pro tip: Always end with, “Is there anyone else you recommend I connect with?” That one line can 10x your network.

3. Be consistent, not perfect.

Networking isn’t a one-and-done. Make it a weekly habit. Even one post, comment, or coffee chat a week adds up fast.

Final thought:
The best career moves come from the people you know, not just the résumés you send.
So get out there, join the convo, and don’t wait to be discovered. Be the one who shows up.
